Volvo EX90 Recharge- Volvo will introduce its latest LiDAR technology with the EX90 Recharge electric SUV. This advanced sensor set includes 8 cameras, 5 radars, and 16 ultrasonic sensors, making it one of the most advanced on the market. Eventually, this feature will be available in all new Volvo cars. The Geely-owned Scandinavian carmaker claims that its LiDAR technology is capable of detecting pedestrians up to 250 m away and objects as small and dark as a tire on a black road up to 120 m ahead, even when driving at highway speeds. Developed internally, this new technology will serve as the car’s main computing power, ensuring potential hazards are monitored.

According to Joachim de Verdier, head of Safe Vehicle Automation at Volvo Cars, “We believe the EX90 to be the safest Volvo car ever produced. Suspension

Similar to other vehicles in its category, the Volvo exhibits noticeable leaning when taking curves. However, its steering responses are precise and the weight of the wheel strikes a pleasant balance between being too light and too heavy. In our test car, we opted for the air suspension which offered a comfortable and insulated ride. The XC90 also handles various road situations effectively. The only minor complaint we have is that there is some clattering from the chassis when encountering sharp bumps, revealing slight imperfections in the road. Nonetheless, overall, the XC90 remains an elegant choice.

Payload Capacity

It is important for individuals who are interested in towing boats, trailers, and other recreational items to note that not all XC90 models can achieve the maximum tow rating of 5000 pounds. Although every XC90 equipped with the 295-hp B6 powertrain and XC90 Recharge are capable of towing this amount, XC90s with the base 247-hp B5 powertrain have a maximum towing capacity of 4000 pounds.

Fuel Economy

Apart from its plug-in powertrain, the XC90 achieves fuel economy ratings that are comparable to those of other six-cylinder competitors. In the previous year, the 247-hp B5 powertrain achieved an estimated 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, while XC90s equipped with the 295-hp B6 powertrain obtained ratings of 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The XC90 Recharge received an EPA-rated 66 MPGe and can travel up to 36 miles on battery power, as per the EPA.

Interior

The interior of the XC90 is an impressive feat, showcasing an appealing layout and premium materials. It would be delightful to have more vehicles of this caliber.
