Kia Carnival Reviews On Road Price 2024 Mileage, Features, Engine, Performance, Design & Images

Kia Carnival Reviews Every carmaker in the MPV segment has a distinct offering at various price points, and this sector is expanding rapidly. The Kia Carnival is no exception as it caters to a specific group of buyers who desire a luxurious MPV as an upgrade from the Toyota Innova Crysta. It comes in seven, eight, and nine seating options and is powered by a single diesel engine. For this road test, we had the opportunity to drive the highest-spec Limousine variant, which is exclusively available as a seven-seater.

The Kia Carnival is a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) that is renowned for its spacious and comfortable interiors. It features an impressive exterior design with a prominent grille and sleek lines, ensuring it stands out on the road. The Carnival is offered in both 7-seater and 8-seater configurations, making it an excellent choice for large families or groups. It is equipped with a 2.2-liter diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 200 PS and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. In summary, the Kia Carnival is a high-end and practical MPV that is perfect for extended journeys and family excursions.

Kia Carnival Reviews 2024

The Kia Carnival is available with only one powertrain choice. It is equipped with a 2.2-liter, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that generates 197bhp and 440Nm of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission transfers power to the front wheels. In comparison to the sleek and elegant exterior design, the dashboard design of the Kia Carnival appears somewhat cluttered and outdated, which is not surprising given that this MPV has been on the market for nearly six years.

The spaciousness of the cabin is enhanced by the beige-and-black interior theme, and you can further brighten up the cabin with the twin sunroofs. The Carnival is available in three different seating configurations – seven-seater, eight-seater, or nine-seater – depending on your requirements. However, if you desire a seating experience similar to business class, the seven-seater variant with ‘VIP’ seats for the second row is highly recommended.

Introduction

The demand for MPVs is increasing day by day, and what’s surprising is that every car manufacturer has a unique offering at different price points. The Kia Carnival is no exception to this trend. It caters to a specific group of buyers who are looking for a premium MPV as an upgrade from the Toyota Innova Crysta. It comes in three seating configurations – seven, eight, and nine – and is powered by a single diesel engine. In this road test, we had the opportunity to drive the top-spec Limousine trim, which is exclusively available as a seven-seater. We have conducted a comprehensive analysis of how the Carnival performs in real-world conditions, providing you with all the relevant facts and figures.

Design & Style

MPVs are often considered dull in appearance due to their functional design. However, the Kia Carnival breaks this stereotype with its impressive and commanding presence, despite its massive size. The MPV exudes elegance with its wide tigernose grille, sleek LED headlamps, ice cube LED fog lamps, and subtle chrome accents.

With a length exceeding 5.1 meters, the Carnival is longer than the Toyota Vellfire, clearly displaying its van body-style from the side profile. Nonetheless, the sides receive a touch of excitement with 18-inch chrome wheels, a floating-roof effect, and a slight kink at the C-pillar. Lower trims come equipped with dual-tone alloys. The rear of the Carnival maintains a more understated look, featuring LED taillights and a discreet chrome highlight on the tailgate.

Interior

Similar to its exterior, the interior of the car also exudes magnificence. With careful attention to detail, the cabin is designed with high-quality materials and a top-notch fit and finish. The dash-top is made of soft plastics and the upholstery features Napa leather, adding an extra touch of luxury. Due to its wider proportions, accessing the glove-box or the passenger-side 12V socket may require some additional effort, but overall, the cabin is ergonomic. The generous amount of glass area and the supportive 10-way electrically-adjustable driver seat provide a commanding view of the surroundings. However, it’s worth noting that while cornering, the thick A-pillar obstructs visibility.

The Carnival would have been more convenient for parking in narrow spaces if it had a 360-degree camera, which we anticipated it to have. Additionally, a color driver information system (DIS) similar to the one found in the Kia Seltos would be useful. Although the driver seat is equipped with a cooling function, it would have been beneficial for the middle row seats to also have ventilation, especially for customers who are driven by chauffeurs.

Engine

The Kia Carnival is equipped with only one powertrain option – a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 197bhp. This engine is paired with an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Despite being a diesel motor, the engine runs smoothly and is very quiet, both at idle and while driving. It offers ample low-end torque, and the power delivery is linear, with well-controlled turbolag, making it ideal for slow city speeds.

On the highway, most of the 440Nm of torque is available in the mid-range, allowing the MPV to maintain a speed of 120kmph while keeping the engine RPM under 2000. This impressive performance helped the MPV achieve a 0-100kmph sprint time of 10.80s, which is exceptional considering its weight of 2240kg. In fact, we also observed some torque steer when there was a sudden acceleration.

Performance

The Carnival is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces an impressive 290 horsepower. It comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard and is available only as a front-wheel-drive model, with no option for all-wheel drive. Unlike the Pacifica, which offers a plug-in-hybrid powertrain, and the Toyota Sienna, which comes as a hybrid by default, the Carnival does not have any such setup available.

We are particularly impressed by the Carnival’s well-balanced ride and handling. It delivers a smooth experience when cruising and remains composed even in corners. The refined V-6 engine provides lively acceleration, allowing the Carnival to reach 60 mph in just 7.0 seconds during our test track evaluation.

Ride and Handling

When it comes to the ride quality, the Carnival provides a smooth and comfortable experience at lower speeds. The suspension is designed to absorb bumps and potholes effectively, although there may be a slight shaking sensation when encountering particularly rough patches of road. As the speed increases, the ride becomes more balanced. However, on long stretches of uneven highways or when going over section joints, the suspension can feel unsettled and cause some vertical bouncing.

With that being said, it is important to exercise caution when parking in cramped spaces or navigating through traffic due to the Carnival’s substantial size. Additionally, the steering may feel cumbersome at low speeds and overly light as you accelerate, which can make you feel uneasy and catch you off guard. Moreover, if you approach a long curve with too much enthusiasm, the MPV has a tendency to understeer.

Conclusion

The Kia Carnival is a versatile and spacious minivan that offers comfort, convenience, and style. With its sleek exterior design and modern interior features, the Carnival stands out from the crowd. Whether you’re taking a road trip with the family or running errands around town, the Kia Carnival provides ample space for passengers and cargo alike. Its flexible seating configurations allow for up to eight passengers or the ability to create more room for hauling larger items. The Carnival also comes equipped with advanced safety features to give you peace of mind on the road. Kia Carnival is a top choice for those seeking a reliable and practical minivan with a touch of luxury.
